The golf course at the Legends Golf & Safari Resort in South Africa is an amazing stretch of 18 holes designed by 18 different top-flight golfers, including Padraig Harrington, Colin Montgomerie, K.J. Choi, Retief Goosen, Justin Rose, Trevor Immelman and Vijay Singh.  The golf course is designed as an 18 hole championship golf course. It is at once the longest golf course in South Africa, providing all golfers, irrespective of their handicap, the experience of a true African challenge. The course plays at 6,534 metres for daily play but is capable of being extended to 7,748 metres for tournaments, making it one of the longest in the world.

Set on the legendary 22 000 hectare Entabeni Safari Conservancy, the course has flowing fairways which wind through the open grasslands and dense bush. The design and layout of the course are in complete harmony with the natural resources.  The pristine bushveld environment has been preserved and the course remains one of the most environmentally sensitive in Africa.

The sheer scale of the golf course, with gently undulating greens and strategic bunkering ensures a unique golfing experience with breathtaking views of the Waterberg Mountains as a backdrop. On any given hole, a range of 5 tees allows the golf course to be set up for both professional and amateur players and creates the flexibility that one needs for an enjoyable golfing experience.

The jewell of the crown its the bonus 19th hole, the course’s so-called “Xtreme 19th” hole is a par 3 — a par 3 whose tee is atop a cliff on Hanglip Mountain, more than 1,400 feet above a green carved like the continent of Africa. Few holes in the history of golf have generated as much interest as the The Extreme 19th, newspapers, magazines, TV and radio stations across the globe have run features on this most amazing golf hole.

Accessible only by helicopter, with the tee set 400m up on the  majestic Hanglip Mountain and played to a green the shape of Africa some 400m below, the Extreme 19th has captured the imagination like no other hole. Golfing superstars as well as celebrities from across the world of sport and entertainment have been equally as impressed with this most unique hole.

In a shoot-out with French star Raphael Jacquelin, 2008 Open Champion Padraig Harrington famously became the first person to make a Par 3 – but since then he has been joined by many others – just normal golfers enjoying the golfing experience of a lifetime. Should you manage to make a hole-in-one on the 19th, congratulations — you’ve just won yourself one million US dollars, and the right to call yourself one of the most Xtreme golfers on Earth! The “Xtreme 19th”  will also serve as the playoff hole for the tournaments held at the Legends Golf & Safari Resort. Playing all 19 holes runs about $220 US dollars, but for that you get the helicopter ride, plus a bunch of souvenir swag and a DVD of your shot.
