Golf Books #267 (The Bogey Man: A Month on the PGA Tour)

Feb 28th

51diwillxlGeorge Plimpton chronicles his month spent on the PGA tour in THE BOGEY MAN, now repackaged and including a foreword by Rick Reilly and never-before-seen content from the Plimpton Archives.

What happens when a weekend athlete–of average skill at best–joins the professional golf circuit? George Plimpton, one of the finest participatory sports journalists, spent a month of self-imposed torture on the tour to find out. Along the way, he meets amateurs, pros, caddies, officials, fans, and hangers-on.

In THE BOGEY MAN, we find golf legends, adventurers, stroke-saving theories, superstitions, and other golfing lore, and best of all, Plimpton’s thoughts and experiences–frustrating, humbling and, sometimes, thrilling–from the first tee to the last green.

This intriguing classic, which remains one of the wittiest books ever written on golf, features Arnold Palmer, Dow Finsterwald, Walter Hagan, and many other golf greats and eccentrics, all doing what they do best. But wait, there’s more…

Dark Horse Golf Course, Auburn, CA

Feb 27th

One of the finest courses built in Northern California in many years, DarkHorse lies in Auburn in the Sierra Nevada foothills, about 50 miles east of Sacramento. The course was laid out on what was once a 1,100-acre cattle ranch and features magnificent elevation changes. But there is much more than that for those who truly love golf.

Holes were gently placed into the curving valleys on the site; the greens are subtly contoured; the bunkers are strategically placed and offer a variety of different shot making opportunities.

Course Designer Keith Foster has crafted 18 unique holes that will leave you anxious to play DarkHorse again.

Golf Books #266 (The Random History of Golf: Embarrassing Shanks & Outrageous Slices)

Feb 22nd

41o0dumiodlThis is the story of golf as it’s never been told before: Mary Queen of Scots cheers herself up at the links at Leith following the murder of her husband Lord Darnley; Dwight D. Eisenhower’s valet shoots the breeze as he clears up the Oval Office following a particularly grueling Presidential putting practice session; and Bob Hope’s chauffeur experiments with some one-liners while waiting for his boss in the clubhouse car park.

The albatrosses, the Big Berthas, the yips and the holes-in-one that have provided the perfect excuse to linger at the 19th hole are amusingly recalled for the delectation of the Fair Isle sweater brigade.

Mizuno is introducing a new JPX–S model to its line–up in February 2017. it’s a soft–compression 3–piece ball offering balanced performance across a wider range of swing speeds plus increased initial ball speed for most golfers.

Mizuno has long held an enviable reputation for its golf clubs. In recent years that reputation has extended more fully into the golf ball world too, with first the tour–proven MP–S and MP–X models, and then the introduction of the JPX and high–tech JPX Platinum 5–piece models.

Now, Mizuno is launching a new JPX–S ball this February, a soft–compression version of Mizuno’s 3–piece ball engineered for balanced performance across a wider range of swing speeds. By softening the core, Mizuno’s ball engineers have not only been able to enhance the feel of the JPX–S at impact, but also deliver increased initial ball speed for the majority of golfers.   But wait, there’s more…

Golf Books #265 (The Release: Golf’s Moment of Truth)

Feb 14th

71-fawun7elToo much of what we hear of golf instruction is either way too simple or way too complex. It is either just another tip or the instruction is so clouded in scientific language that you need an advanced degree to understand it.

This book will completely explain club delivery and will teach you there are two very opposite ways to do it. Both are in the Hall of Fame and you will learn which release belongs in your game and how to correctly execute it. In his fourth and latest book, The Release: Golf’s Moment of Truth, Jim Hardy tackles the most critical part of the golf swing.

His simple, clear explanations of the two types of releases in the golf swing (RIT and LOP) will be sure to help everyone determine what is best for their swing and instantly hit the next ball better. His clear explanations using photos and simple terminology promises that you will not be bogged down with language you do not understand, or information that does not easily relate to results. Everyone wants results and the clearer the information is communicated to you the sooner the results are achieved. But wait, there’s more…
