Nov 29th
2016

41x6u4ainpl-_sx319_bo1204203200_You drive for show, you putt for dough’. This old saying is familiar to all golfers and Bob Rotella, one of the foremost authorities on golf today, is a firm believer in its truth. In Putting out of Your Mind he reveals the unique mental approach that great putting requires and helps golfers of all levels master this essential skill. Much like Golf Is Not a Game of Perfect and Golf Is a Game of Confidence, Putting out of Your Mind is a resonant and informative guide to achieving a better golf game. While most golfers spend their time trying to perfect their swing so they can hit the ball further, Rotella encourages them to concentrate on their putting, the most crucial yet overlooked aspect of the game. Great players are not only aware of the importance of putting, they go out of their way to master it. And of course mastery begins with an understanding of the attitude needed to be a better putter. Rotella’s mental rules, which have helped some of the greatest golfers in the world to become champion putters can now work for golfers everywhere. But wait, there’s more…

The golf course at the Legends Golf & Safari Resort in South Africa is an amazing stretch of 18 holes designed by 18 different top-flight golfers, including Padraig Harrington, Colin Montgomerie, K.J. Choi, Retief Goosen, Justin Rose, Trevor Immelman and Vijay Singh.  The golf course is designed as an 18 hole championship golf course. It is at once the longest golf course in South Africa, providing all golfers, irrespective of their handicap, the experience of a true African challenge. The course plays at 6,534 metres for daily play but is capable of being extended to 7,748 metres for tournaments, making it one of the longest in the world.

Set on the legendary 22 000 hectare Entabeni Safari Conservancy, the course has flowing fairways which wind through the open grasslands and dense bush. The design and layout of the course are in complete harmony with the natural resources.  The pristine bushveld environment has been preserved and the course remains one of the most environmentally sensitive in Africa.

The sheer scale of the golf course, with gently undulating greens and strategic bunkering ensures a unique golfing experience with breathtaking views of the Waterberg Mountains as a backdrop. On any given hole, a range of 5 tees allows the golf course to be set up for both professional and amateur players and creates the flexibility that one needs for an enjoyable golfing experience.

Fidel Castro vs Che Guevara

Nov 27th
2016

Now that Fidel Castro has retired, perhaps he can find the time to work on his golf game.

In 1962, Mr. Castro lost a round of golf to Ernesto “Che” Guevara, who had been a caddy in his Argentine hometown before he became a guerrilla icon. Mr. Castro’s defeat may have had disastrous consequences for the sport. He had one Havana golf course turned into a military school, another into an art school. A journalist who wrote about the defeat of Cuba’s Maximum Leader, who was a notoriously bad loser, was fired the next day.

Now, top officials on the island want to turn Mr. Castro’s Communist paradise into a hotspot for this decidedly capitalist sport, to generate hard cash for its cash-strapped economy. Last year, Cuba’s minister of tourism, Manuel Marrero, announced plans to build as many as 10 golf courses to lure upscale tourists...Source

Nov 22nd
2016

9781579652371There are more than half a million golf holes in the world–and GOLF Magazine has picked the best, in The 500 World’s Greatest Golf Holes.

More than six hundred lavish photographs complement anecdotal “biographies” and vital statistics of the holes deemed the best in the world by the magazine’s editors and their panel of international experts. Readers will find out if their favorite holes made the cut by first turning to The Eighteen, representing the most respected and challenging holes–holes like the thirteenth at Augusta National. Next, they discover which are considered the top one hundred (no surprise that the eleventh at St. Andrews Old Course and the fifth at Pinehurst are included here). Finally, there is an all-inclusive gazetteer of all five hundred. A special section offers the Best of the Best–lists of holes by category, such as the most scenic, longest, best in Europe, hardest-to-putt greens, and so on.

This is the golf book for the passionate golfer and the armchair duffer alike.
