Beachgolf Sport

Aug 31st

New event and dynamic Beach Golf features a playground unique and original.

Factors relating to the project on which you can find some points of common interest, can be traced starting from the particularity of the field, two kilometers of sandy coastline (the largest ever granted permission by the Ministry of Transport and Shipping, 165,000 sqm . of public land occupied), on which will face 30 teams of two players each.

Each of them will be surrounded by three hostesses (120 in total for hostesses stage) that, holding a range of protection will prevent the public from getting too close surrounding. Natural obstacles, such as persons and objects, characterize the path of play. The public is not a mere spectator but an essential part of the game itself.

Along the way are made fun of the original and special tests. It is played with balls of foam, absolutely harmless. New items are added each year to the initial plan to optimize the needs of vision of the partners.

Aquarius Golf Course, England

Aug 30th

The Aquarius Golf Club was founded in 1912. Located in Honor Oak, London This 9 hole course was laid out on the roof and around Beechcroft Reservoir, which was completed in 1909.  At the time it was Europe’s largest underground reservoir, still operational today and holding 55 million gallons of water.  Competitions have been played at the Aquarius since 1913, with breaks for both World Wars.

In 1920, two schoolboys from Alleyn’s School, Dulwich, started golf at the Aquarius.  They were L.T (Leslie) Cotton and his brother T.H. (Henry) Cotton.  In 1923 Henry Cotton won the Pilling Cup and the Hutchings Trophy & Leslie won the Bogey Cup.  They left in January 1924 to become professionals.  Henry was to become one of the greatest players of his generation, winning the British Open in 1934, 1937 and 1948.

Designed for golfers who hit the ball straight as every hole has internal out-of-bounds on both sides of the fairway. There are three par 3’s and the other 6 holes are all straight par 4’s which makes this course good for golfers of all levels. The first and eighth holes are incredibly hard to make par and boast hazards such as vents and bollards. The greens are reasonably small which makes target golf fairly hard. An enjoyable course because it is challenging but fair.

Taba Heights Golf Course, Egypt

Aug 29th

It is rare to find a course that affords a view of three countries while playing a round of golf in the middle of the desert. As well as boasting Egypt’s longest hole – the 566,9 meters long 14th – the Taba Heights Golf Course in Egypt is anything but short when it comes to spectacular scenery or challenging golf. The Sinai Mountains, crystal clear azure waters of the Red Sea, Saudi Arabia and Jordan are all visible from the course.

Designed by John Sanford, a member of the American Society of Golf Course Architects, the course meets American and European architectural standards for golf courses; offering an impressive 6492,2 meters between the 1st and 18th hole. The gentle slopes of the fairways take full advantage of both sea and mountain views; three challenging lakes, as well as several sand bunkers, native desert areas  will test players abilities.

The course is considered more challenging when the back tees are used and less difficult when the remaining tees are used accordingly. Golfers should expect many target fairways and approach shots over lakes, flood canals or wells surrounded by desert green complexes. Poorly played shots can be severely penalized or nicely rewarded.

The Lady Champion

Aug 25th

Golf came to Yorkshire in 1887 when the Cleveland Golf Club was founded and others soon followed. The ladies of those days also played golf. The Yorkshire Union of Golf Clubs was formed in 1894 and in that year they held their first Championship Meeting at Huddersfield. The Union invited the ladies to play a Competition on the very first day of this meeting.

Golf progressed for these lady golfers and in February 1900 they met to discuss “whether a County Golf Club would prove to be a great advantage to the players of Yorkshire.” The answer was a resounding YES. So the Yorkshire County Golf Club was formed with subscriptions at 2/6d per year (£0.121 p) The County Colours were chosen as Lincoln Green with a white rose and golf clubs crossing. These colours were put on the County Hat Band which cost 4/- (£0.20p).

The next meeting was held in March and County matches fixed against Lincolnshire, Lancashire and Cheshire.

There were 47 members in the first year. At the AGM in November it was resolved to buy by subscription a County Challenge Bowl to be competed for by the County members with a handicap limit of 18. The first Challenge Bowl Meeting was held at Ilkley in 1901. The entrance fee was 1/-.(£0.05p) Miss Bertha Thompson (Beverley) beat Miss Jackson also from Beverley by 4/3. But wait, there’s more
